YBE Ghana partners with Boring Talkative to host self defense lessons for women

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Young Black Excellence LLC (YBE Ghana ) partnered with blogger and women’s rights activist to host the first self defense lesson that seeks to empower women with practical self defense skills.

The purpose of the class was to equip girls and women with basic self defense skills, create awareness about Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) in Ghana & to raise money to support victims of SGBV.

The COVID-19 pandemic also compounds prevailing gender inequalities and vulnerabilities, increasing risks of abuse. Pandemics expose women and girls to higher risks of experiencing domestic / spousal violence and other forms of domestic violence due to heightened tensions in the household. In 2016, approximately 27.7 per cent of Ghanaian women had experienced at least one form of domestic violence (physical, economic, psychological, social and sexual violence).

This is why YBE Ghana decide to partner to host this self defense lesson with the hope of empowering young girls and women in Accra to be better equipped against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).

This is the first of many! Watch an excerpt of the training session below.
